I first got into dance music growing up in Manchester where I used to hit up Sankey’s, 5th Avenue, and of course the epic Hacienda (what went down on the closing night will go with me to my grave!). This was the early 90s so it was the breakout of the Super DJ - people like Paul Oakenfold, Jeremy Healy, Brandon Block, and Sasha all spinning uplifting House. Then, when I went to University in Bournemouth I gradually started getting into Drum & Bass & Jungle through clubs like The Manor, The Opera House, and the Gardening Club. As time moved on though, the UK Garage scene was inescapable and I found myself moving on to Trance made famous by DJs like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, and Above & Beyond. Although I’d played with a set of decks up North, it wasn’t until Uni when I started DJing at our Student Union Club (The Fire Station) that I really found a passion for it. Nowadays, having re-acquainted myself with Drum & Bass through the likes of Hospital Records, Viper, RAM, AndyC, and Fabio & Grooverider I’ve got back into mixing again and love mashing the contrast between the uplifting feel-good tunes with the downright filthy baselines of the darker stuff.
